Maitreya Festival is born out of the will to encourage self expression and freedom in the wonderful people who attend. All who participate in gatherings of this kind take away a sense of togetherness with those who they danced and celebrated with over the event, and a reconnection with the wonderful nature and art they experienced. This is of real value to the world!
Festivals have always offered people in every part of the planet great opportunity to unite, to wildly celebrate, to grow, and to move toward understanding more about the people we are as individuals, and to understand more deeply about our roles in the amazing worldwide community surrounding us. All of this, has inspired us to come together and create Maitreya Festival, with no other purpose but to continue this tradition, offering the collective experience of the past to inspire a collective future like no other!
We would also like to thank especially the Yorta Yorta Tribe for their blessings and support. The Yorta Yorta Tribe are the traditional owners of the land where the festival is held, and without their diligence and care over many generations the spirit of their land would not be as special as it is.
Event Artwork
Each year our advertising artwork for the festival has featured powerful cultural symbols from around the world. These symbols help to inspire us, and hopefully you, and convey wisdom and lessons passed down from generation to generation. These symbols are beautiful on an artistic level and also have far deeper meanings for many, and meanings that are only understood through self contemplation, inward journey, and stillness of the mind. We hope you can use these symbols along your way, and that you gain from them all that you can.
This year we have chosen to use the symbol of the Sun and Raven which is integral in the cultural teachings of the Haida Indian tribes of Northern America.
Long ago no divisions existed between humans, animals and spirits. All things of the earth, sky, and, water were connected, and all beings could pass freely between them. The Raven, who is central in all Haida lore, is a complex reflection of our selves and created the sun, and from it the moon and stars. The Raven is a trickster, magician, a transformer, a potent creative force, sexual deviant, ravenous debaucher and a wise supernatural being with infinite vision. The raven assists people of the world in their encounters with the supernatural, and these and other stories of the Raven and the Sun are the reasons for choosing the image to represent this years event.
